SPICE Science Days 2008
This year there are three days on offer:
- 11 June 2008 –
Biological Sciences Day
for biology and human biology teachers.
This day will expose biology and human biology science teachers
to areas such as astrobiology, stem cells, genetic mapping and
recovery from neurotrauma.
Sessions include presentations from scientists on their
cutting-edge research, hands-on workshops and practical lab
sessions.
There are two separate streams available - a human biology
stream and biology stream.
- 12 June 2008 –
Middle School Science Day
for upper primary and lower secondary science teachers.
This mixed bag of science covers topics such as biophysics,
synchrotrons, materials science, astronomy, forensic science
and plant biology.
Sessions include presentations from scientists on their
cutting-edge research, hands-on workshops and practical lab
sessions.
- 13 June 2008 –
Physical Sciences Day
for physics, chemistry and earth science teachers.
The physical sciences day will introduce secondary science
teachers to areas including gravity research, the Australian
Synchrotron, measuring using diffraction techniques, teaching
technologies, carbon chemistry and environmental chemistry.
Sessions include presentations from scientists on their
cutting-edge research, hands-on workshops and practical lab
sessions.
There are two separate streams available - a physics stream and
chemistry and earth science stream.
SPICE days contain a range of activities, from hands-on lab
sessions and field trips to presentations by UWA researchers
showcasing cutting-edge science.
Spaces are limited and activity details are currently being
finalised. See last year's event for
reference.

Costs:
DET Schools: $40 per teacher per day
Non-DET (Independant/Catholic) Schools: $80 per teacher per
day
Includes welcome refreshments, morning tea and lunch.

Please note:
- Bookings close 4th June 2008.
- Payment is required at the time of registration.
- If a teacher has paid and is unable to attend a PD day, the
school may send another teacher in their place at no extra
cost.
- Ensure that all forms are sent to the addres above and not
just addressed to UWA - the forms may get lost!
