SPICE Events are designed to increase contact and networking between WA science teachers and science researchers at UWA and associated SPICE partners (eg the Perth Zoo) and to expose science teachers to exciting new science.

Pulse@Parkes

9.00 – 3:30pm, Wednesday 23rd September 2009

The SPICE program will once again be hosting Pulse@Parkes courtesy of the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF). 20 students, working in small teams, will be able to directly control the famous Parkes Radio Telescope and observe and download data from pulsars with expert support from a CSIRO astronomer. Keep your eyes open for your school’s invitation.

Earth Science Workshop

The SPICE Earth Sciences school holiday 2-day workshop will be on again during the third term holidays. Holiday workshops fill up very quickly so stay tuned and act fast.

International POLAR PALOOZA

Polar Palooza is an education and outreach initiative supported by the US National Science Foundation. In honour of the 50th anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty, iPPZA is bringing leading American polar researchers to Australia for a series of presentations describing how Earths changing poles affect weather, climate and the environment.

A student show will be held at the Octagon on 18/11/09 and a teachers PD may be held on 19/11/09.
